Steaua BucureÅŸti Champions League match preview

By: sasha | September 29th, 2008

Steaua Bucureşti faces Fiorentina in their second Champions League match. Their first Champions League match, which they lost at home 1-0 to Bayern München showed a lack of attacking confidence and to be successful they will need to be aggressive in Florence.

Much of the pre-match talk has been surrounding Adrian Mutu, ArgeÅŸ PiteÅŸti and Dinamo BucureÅŸti alumni, wishing to score however this match won’t be decided on theatrics but on sound Football. The RoÅŸ-AlbaÅŸtrii are coming off a very tight 1-1 draw against CFR Cluj this weekend while Fiorentina rebounded from the mid-week 3-0 loss to Lazio to defeat Genoa 1-0 on Saturday. The Viola are completely healthy with the exception of Manuel Pasqual. Steaua are without Ifeanyi Emeghara and Mihăiţă PleÅŸan because of injuries but have Tricolorii Bănel Nicoliţă back from suspension. His addition to the club can have an enormous impact in the attacking aspect of play in particular and tip the scales of the match. With Fiorentina likely to employ a 4-3-3 this will be an exciting tactical match up for fans to watch. For Steaua BucureÅŸti to be successful, Sorin Ghionea will need to control the play of Adrian Mutu and Alberto Gilardino in a backline that includes Petre Marin, Dorin Goian and George Ogăraru.
