RoÅŸ-AlbaÅŸtrii fall-short in Lyon

By: sasha | November 6th, 2008

The efforts of the RoÅŸ-AlbaÅŸtrii fell short yesterday losing 2-0 to Lyon in the Champions League. The loss leaves Steaua BucureÅŸti win a single point, two behind Fiorentina with two matches remaining. Dorinel Munteanu’s forces had a tough task ahead of them and it appeared they had struck the right chord at first with a tight defensive plan and a focus on the counter-attack. Yet with the pitch in very poor conditions from heavy rainfall, movement was difficult and pushing forward on the counter was very challenging. The match was scoreless up to a minute before the break the match was scoreless however with a Tiago Gomes foul, Lyon’s Juninho free-kick artist stepped-up and painted a perfect drive through the wall and into the net. With very limited scoring chances, RoÅŸ-AlbaÅŸtrii was anxious for a draw and went forward but as time wound down Anthony Réveillère scored on the counter-attack to bring the match to a 2-0 conclusion. Steaua BucureÅŸti now must turn its attention immediately home to a big match this weekend against Rapid BucureÅŸti.
