Cluj suffer disappointing loss

By: sasha | October 22nd, 2008

Maurizio Trombetta’s CFR Cluj suffered a very disappointing 1-0 loss to Bordeaux in a match on a own goal by skipper Cadú nine minutes after the break. The match was primarily played between the boxes and it is safe to say that the offensive flourish we typically see from Cluj was absent. The French squad led by Laurent Blanc was unable to break through the five-man midfield as well and was gifted the lone goal of the match when Yoann Gourcuff’s cross was sent to the back of the net by Cadú. Yssouf Koné had a perfect opportunity to level the match with thirteen minutes when he broke free on the Bordeaux’s ‘keeper Ulrich Ramé.

It will be a tough loss for the Liga 1 champions to absorb as they defended will throughout the match and tactically satisfied much of their goals. However the loss has Cluj in second place, three points behind leader Chelsea and one ahead of Bordeaux and Roma.
